Discover the wonders of Missouri birds and the location of their flyways while working on badges. Activities are designed for Junior Girl Scouts, Cub Scout Wolves and Webelos. Juniors can work on Let's Get Outdoors: Wildlife 3 and 8. Wolves can work on Birds: Elective 13d. Webelos can work on Outdoor Group: Naturalist 4 - 6. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The familiar black and orange monarch butterfly is actually very mysterious. What is the only plant the caterpillars will eat? How do birds know that this butterfly tastes bad? How do monarchs know their way south in the fall and north in the spring? We'll celebrate the life and mysteries of this beautiful butterfly with stories and crafts. Learn to identify trees during Discover Nature Families: Tree I.D. for the Family at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center.

Don’t go barkin’ up the wrong tree with a false I.D. Enjoy a relaxing hike around Tanglevine Trail where we will work in family groups to identify trees by their bark, leaves, size and even smell. Dress for the weather and bring comfortable shoes. Reservations are required. 10 to 11 a.m. Families ages 7 and up. Free. Powder Valley Conservation Nature Area.

A tree is home to many different animals. Join the naturalist on a nature walk and find different things that come from trees and find different animals that live in trees. Then get ready to make like a squirrel and play an outside game. The program will end with an interactive story and nature craft. Siblings are welcome. Parents, grandparents, youth leaders and teachers, bring your family or group to learn about local opportunities to get the children in your life to enjoy and explore the outdoors. Learn about nature play without high tech equipment and expensive gear. Various organizations will be represented and example activities will be ongoing. Today's Featured Camp

Fazio’s Rock Academy

Fazio’s Rock Academy is the summer destination for the aspiring rock star in your life! Campers attend one-week or two-week sessions (8:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. daily) where they form a real band, choose a band name, write their own music, pose for a photo shoot and conclude with a live concert with special guest appearances by professional rock artists! Fazio's Rock Academy is for Guitarists, Vocalists, Bassists and Keyboardists between the ages of 9-17 years.

Two sessions are offered: July 15-19; and July 22-26. Each session is $399, which includes print music and a t-shirt. Ask about a discounted rate for two-week enrollment.
