What a joy it is to see hummingbirds buzzing around! What amazing birds they are! Our familiar ruby-throated hummingbirds beat their wings about 75 times a second and can fly up to 60 miles an hour! Although they only weigh as much as a penny or two, they can fly hundreds of miles over the Gulf of Mexico to winter in Central America. Remember the old days of mud pits and mud pies? Here is the chance to relive some of the joys of our childhood with your own children. Powder Valley will provide the dirt, you bring the clean clothes for the ride home! Adults, separate from the children, will learn about the importance of unstructured play and nature exploration for the healthy development of young children. At the same time, children will be supervised by naturalists as they use their imaginations to get down and dirty in a big pile of dirt!
Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center welcomes popular northwest musical artist John Nilsen to a performance in the nature center’s auditorium Friday, June 7 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Nilsen, a noted pianist and acoustic musician, comes from Portland, Oregon. He is one of the largest-selling musical artists in the northwestern U.S.

Girls ages 12 to 18 can bring out their inner Katniss and learn
some of the archery skills this character used in the popular book series and movie The Hunger Games. Participants will rotate between five activities throughout the day: archery, birding, fire/water/shelter skills, wild edibles, wildflowers and camouflage.
Participants should dress for the weather and bring lunch. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to June 1.

With an age-appropriate curriculum and a safe environment, our college baseball coaches will show your son or daughter what it takes to be a Lil' Bear through instruction, games, wiffle ball, and – because every kid wants to get in the pool – SWIM TIME!
