is home to thousands of different critters and each one is fascinating in its own way. Through games, demonstrations, and hands-on activities you'll examine the lives and adaptations of Missouri's animals, from ones that could visit your backyard to ones you may never actually see.
Explore
the fascinating world of night-flying insects. Marvel at their diversity and adaptations as you lure these mysterious creatures with black lights. Be prepared for moderate hiking and wear dark clothing. The class runs 8:30 - 10:30 p.m.
For families with children age 8 and over. Meet at the Visitor Center at Shaw Nature Reserve.
Discover nature in the Whitmire Wildflower Garden with hands-on activities, stories, snacks and spontaneous encounters with wildlife and plants. For families with children over age 5. One adult per child. The class runs 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Check in at the Visitor Center at Shaw Nature Reserve, then follow the signs to the Carriage House.

This drop-in class will teach families a variety of games that can be played outdoors with few or no materials required. Stop by the Nature Explore Classroom for a few minutes, or an hour, to hear what our volunteer Teacher Naturalists have to teach you about these fun and easy nature games that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. No registration is required.

This class is designed to give families a chance to enjoy fun, nature-based experiences together. After a short hike to the pond, we'll learn about the plants and animals who call it home. Using nets from the shore and free-floating docks, we'll explore the watery world.
Once we've collected our organisms, we'll investigate who they are and what role they play in the pond. Before our hike back, we'll release all organisms. Please register, spots are limited.
Springtime is the season for baby animals. Learn about the many different kinds of animals born this time of year. You will be able to take a little bit of spring home with you. Little Acorns classes are an excellent way to help prepare your child for pre-school or kindergarten! Please dress for the weather. One adult per child, please.

Ackermann's Swim Program has been teaching children ages 4 to 11 the life skill of swimming and water safety in Kirkwood for over 60 years. Our non-competitive, safe teaching environment builds confidence and self-esteem.
