The YMCA Book Fair is now in its 34th year and will be held Aug. 17 through 22 at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 6050 Wells Road in St. Louis.
The annual event is one of the largest fund raisers for the YMCA of St. Louis, benefiting literacy programs, such as one-on-one tutoring for children and adults, free books and parent support programs at 26 locations across the St. Louis metro area. Over the years the book fair has raised more than $1.6 million for Y Community Literacy.

The Foundation's mission is to end neurofibromatosis (NR) through research. NF is a common, yet under-recognized, genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. The disorder can lead to blindness, bone abnormalities, cancer, deafness, disfigurement, learning disabilities and excruciating and disabling pain. NF affects one in every 3,000 people.
Kids of all ages are invited to ride the trains at Kircher Park. The steam and diesel trains are operated by the St. Louis Live Steamers, a nonprofit organization interested in the construction of large-scale model railroads.
Rides are offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on select Saturday, including Aug. 11 and Sept. 8, and Oct. 6. Kircher Park is located just south of Highway 44 on Williams Road in Eureka. Rides are free but a small donation is appreciated. More information: www.stlouislivesteamers.org

Come out for some family fun at the Missouri History Museum. This series combines special guests, storytelling and hands-on arts and crafts projects inspired by objects and themes in the exhibitions. Enjoy storytime in the galleries from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or drop in anytime for make-and-take activities from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ages 2 to 5. Free. Ackermann's Swim Program has been teaching children ages 4 to 11 the life skill of swimming and water safety in Kirkwood for over 60 years. Our non-competitive, safe teaching environment builds confidence and self-esteem.
