Through personal stories and family photographs, St. Louis actor Erin Kelley, a direct descendant of noted Shawnee chief, Tecumseh, shares her experiences of growing up in a Native American/multi-racial family. Illustrating how our assumptions about ethnic and cultural groups shape society, Kelley encourages young people to take pride in what makes them unique. Nominated for a 2009 Kevin Kline Award for Outstanding Production for Young Audiences, Portrait of My People offers a fresh perspective of multiculturalism and Shawnee and Cherokee history which engages students and adults alike. A talk back follows each performance. Today at and tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Lee Auditorium at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.
