St. Louis Kids Exclusive Movie Screening: American Teen
American Teen Tuesday, August 5, 7 p.m. AMC Theatre, Creve Coeur
St. Louis Kids Magazine presents an exclusive showing of the award-winning film American Teen. This pre-release screening is a free event for St. Louis Kids readers who are parents of teens. Columnist and teen expert Russell Hyken will be present to answer questions about teen development, behavior and discuss the issues that impact today's high school students.
From the Sundance review of American Teen: "American Teen follows four high school seniors throughout
their last year at Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana.
There is the popular "queen bee" girl who is involved in everything
from student council to prom (Megan); the band geek "loser" guy who
can't get a girl for the life of him (Jake); the rebellious and artsy,
filmmaker-wanna-be girl with endless guy problems (Hannah); and the
all-star basketball player jock that the entire town relies on for
sports success (Colin). Over one year at WCHS, they encounter every
kind of social issue imaginable, from sex to drinking to insecurities
to relationship troubles to college applications. It's these four very
human, very real stories that make up one of the most shockingly
realistic documentaries you'll ever see."
We hope you'll take this opportunity to watch this fascinating take on the lives of today's teens. Parents are welcome to bring along their teenager to take part in this event. Questions about this event? Email events@stlouiskidsmagazine.com
American Teen is rated PG-13 for some strong language, sexual material, some drinking and brief smoking-all involving teens. Parents please be advised that for the St. Louis Kids screening of American Teen, teens who attend must be accompanied by a parent and must be at least 13 years of age.
