I love my job. Someone actually pays me to write about cool kids' events going on in the St. Louis area.
I never realized how many fun things were happening in my own backyard! One of them is the upcoming St. Louis Admirals’ 22nd Annual Regatta.
Held in the pond behind St. Louis Union Station and organized by the St. Louis Admirals R/C Model Boat Club, this event is one of the oldest and biggest model boat regattas in the country.More than 130 electric radio-controlled model boats – including tugboats, warships, sailboats and submarines – will be setting sail. Whether you are there just to watch, or if you have a boat entered in the contest, this is a great opportunity to see some great museum-quality boats.
Each boat will fall into one of nine classes:
Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place winners of eight classes plus Best of Show, Skipper’s Choice and the Union Station Award. Each participant will receive an attendance prize. The free public event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If you are entering a boat in the contest, the fee is $10 for one boat or $20 for two boats. Each additional boat is free. Please visit the St. Louis Admirals R/C Model Boat Club website for all the rules and regulations. Please note only electric and sailboats will be allowed in the contest – no gas-powered boats or steamboats. Each boat must be a fully operational R/C Model.
