Kick Up Your Heels at a Countrytime Festival

What do you get when you blend downhome music, cloggers and wacky games? The Countrytime Bluegrass Festival and Kid's Country Carnival at Purina Farms! Enjoy one of the area’s most versatile preforming groups, George Portz & “Friends of Bluegrass”, as they mix their fiery Bluegrass roots with some fine traditional Irish and Louisiana Cajun music.

And did I mention clogging is involved? It’s no surprise that the group’s “Cajun Set” has won rave reviews from crowds throughout the Midwest. Besides sporting over 130 First Place championships, Portz —the group’s leader and founder — is an Illinois State Fair and Western Illinois State Fiddle Champion.

After jamming out to some catchy music, kids can try their hand at a ring toss, milkcan softball throw, beanbag toss and ping pong challenge during the Kids Country Carnival. After playing all four games, kids can turn in their stamped cards to receive a special Purina Farms gift.

"This summer, Purina Farms Visitor's Center features fun for all ages, especially in June during the Countrytime Bluegrass Festival and Kids Country Carnival," said Kaite Flamm, event manager at Purina Farms. "The toe-tapping sounds of bluegrass paired with fun carnival games for kids makes for an entertaining couple of days for the whole family."

The Purina Farms Countrytime Bluegrass Festival and Kid’s Country Carnival is taking place on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday June 17 at Purina Farms in Gray Summit.

Performances are taking place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Visitor’s Center. The Kids Country Carnival, located in the tent next to the gift shop, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Reserve your spot by calling (314) 982-3232.
