Since the dawn of time, parents have been telling their kids not to play in the street. Until now.
Get down to Ferguson Sunday Parkways this weekend for the area’s first ciclovia. A mile loop of streets around Jeske Park will be blocked off from auto traffic and opened up to foot traffic. Bring your bike, roller blades, skateboards or running shoes and join in on the fun. There will also be Tai Chi and zumba classes, a skateboarding area, BMX demos, volleyball, face painting and much more.
The concept of ciclovia (Spanish for bike trail) started in Bogota, Columbia over 20 years ago. Over 70 miles of streets are opened to the public every Sunday. Thousands of people come out to socialize, exercise, and have a great time.
Don’t have a bike? A few complimentary adult bikes will be available for use with a valid driver’s license. Kids can get free bike helmet fittings and safe bike riding lessons. Don’t forget to make yourself a smoothie using Trailnet’s pedal-powered bike blender. I’ll take a strawberry banana, please.
Sunday Parkways will take place at various parks around Ferguson on April 25, July 25 and October 3 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.livewellferguson.com/sundayparkways.shtml for more information.
