It’s party time at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House in Chesterfield! Whoop it up at the “Bootterflies” Halloween Party. Children ages 3 to 10 are invited to dress up and enjoy two fun-filled days of non-scary, Halloween-themed activities and crafts. Get yourself caught up in the Mummy Wrap challenge, score a hole-in-one at the Putt Putt Pumpkin game or try your hand at he Goblin in the Goblet Toss. The not-so-scary Haunted Village contains a Pumpkin Patch Barn, Tiny-Bit Mad Scientists Lab, Buggy’s Halloween Party and Bugtilda the Witch’s Boarding House. Don’t forget to have your face painted and grab a goody bag on the way out!
If you can’t make it to the Halloween party, come by anytime in October for the Butterfly House’s October Owls and Orchids. During this event, the 8,000-square-foot Tropical Conservatory will be overflowing with 100 blooming orchids and almost 2,000 owl butterflies. Known for their large wingspan and large eyespots resembling an owl, these butterflies are most active in the evenings. So make sure you come to the Butterfly House during expanded Tuesday hours to catch a glimpse of these winged beauties. From 4 to 7 p.m., kids can play games, make orchid masks, and learn about the four stages of an owl butterfly's life at the Lopata Learning Lab.
