Pioneer Days at The Daniel Boone House

Coming back from a 3-day weekend is painful. Hopefully the most laborious thing you had to do was flip a few burgers or mow the grass. But imagine being a pioneer. If you need a new dress, you make one. Kid sick with a high fever in the middle of the night? Sorry, no 24-hour pharmacy. And you killed or grew all of your food.

Pioneers were some tough people. Experience life on the early Missouri frontier during Pioneer Days. The Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village is being transformed into a pioneer encampment. For two full days, Boone’s home will be buzzing with blacksmithing, dutch oven cooking, period dancing, the sounds of fiddles and banjos playing period music, period carpentry work, basket weaving and cordage. There will be hay mazes, tomahawk throwing, sack races, tug-of-war and other period games just for the kids.

If you can’t make it to Pioneer Days, Daniel Boone’s Home and Boonesfield Village are open daily except for News Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Boone’s nearly 200-year old home overlooks the 19th century buildings of Boonesfield Village. Each building has been moved here from within 50 miles of the local area. Lindenwood University purchased Boone’s Home in 1998 to provide a unique learning opportunity for students of all ages.

Pioneer Days is taking place on Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19 at the historic Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village in Defiance, Missouri. This free event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. For more information on Pioneer Days or the Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village, their website or call 636-798-2005.
